It is an undeniable fact that the Collection consists disproportionately of works by (white) men. I address this elsewhere - it is a function of historical access and influence. However, women have had a massive impact on the EC movement - far more than their published output would indicate. From the original Audubon Societies, to other Women's Groups in the early 20th century who responded to the environmental degradations of the day, to Rachel Carson and beyond, the EC movement has been driven as much by women as by men. For March's Women's History Month, a colleague at a conservation non-profit with which I am affiliated published a series of short pieces in their weekly newsletter on impactful female environmentalists. To wrap the series I wrote a short piece (anonymously - this is not about me), with photos of signed and/or inscribed books by each of the four women profiled, and introduced a few others as well. If I can attach it to this blog, here it is. (Note - I am loathe to ask my colleague to do the extra work of separating and sending the original pieces, and the information contained therein is largely on this site anyway - I am grateful that my colleague was kind enough to send me back my formatted article on its own, separated from the newsletter, to attach below).
